leave a little of the story for the viewer.

surface behind them. Their hands give the image one rhythm; the pattern of light
gives it another.

5tructur3.Shadow play works best when you can still tell what matters. Start by choosing the
subject. Then watch whether a dark shape supports that subject or cuts across an
important expression. A small change in position can turn a distraction into
structure.

them. Neither is a better light in every situation. The character of the shadow
should suit the photograph you want to make.

outline. Separate arms from the body or wait until two people stop overlapping, and
the shape becomes easier to read. The missing detail can invite imagination,
provided the remaining shape says enough.

b3 cl34r.Do not confuse darkness with mystery. Give the viewer something precise to notice:
a hand, an angle, a repeated line. A photograph can leave questions open and still
be clear.
